LACS: Tatiana Mann, piano & Maxim Kozlov, Cello

October 18 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm

The Sound of Feelings & Memories: Tatiana Mann, piano & Maxim Kozlov, Cello

French writer Victor Hugo wrote, “Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that which cannot remain silent”,  and his German musical contemporaries brought the words to life.  They created sounds to invoke emotions and to make memories that last a lifetime.

The vocal nature of interweaving cello lines in Brahms’s Sonata in Em for Cello and Piano, op.38, is plaintive, replete with rests heard in breathless conversations.  Schumann’s Fantasy Pieces op.73 are free-form character studies, tempestuous and passionate, filled with electric energy.  In Beethoven’s Variations op.66 on “Ein Mädchen oder Weibchen” from “Magic Flute” by Mozart, Papageno (the bird catcher) pines for love that makes him happy and content.  Echoing the great romantics that came before them, Ukrainian composers Bortkiewicz and Lysenko, highlight wistful Ukrainian folk melodies, revealing happiness and longing of their people.

Join us then, on October 18th, to hear the passion, and to experience the joy of memories and music!
