Living the Gospel: Interpreting the Bible like Jesus
September 25 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
“Living the Gospel” is an Adult Faith Formation Series
A Joint Venture of St. Camillus, Resurrection, and St. John the Baptist Catholic Churches.
Questions to be explored in a lecture/Q&A format are: How can we interpret and find meaning in the Bible as Jesus intends? How can the Bible be understood so as to further spiritual and social liberation? Fr. Richard Rohr offers a helpful comment and question. “Selective use of Scripture—by preachers and politicians alike—has been used to justify violence, racism, misogyny, homophobia . . . the list goes on. Still, we believe the Bible has something important to say. How can we read it in a contemplative and intelligent way?”
There is a way to understand the Bible without the fundamentalist urge to treat every word as literally true. There is a way to find deep meaning in the Bible and ways of spiritual living that can give life even in today’s polarized world.
This first session of the 2019-2020 Living the Gospel series will be led by L.J. Milone, Faith Formation Director of St. John the Baptist Catholic Community.
It will be held at St. John the Baptist School Library.
